Ten years ago, in the midst of the Vancouver Winter Olympics, we launched the Galiano Literary Festival for those wanting to escape the Olympic Fever in Vancouver.
Each year since then we’ve been very fortunate to attract an increasingly wide range of outstanding first-time and returning authors, and this year is no exception!

Our current group of authors span the spectrum of nonfiction and fiction titles. They include memoirists and biographers Darrell McLeod, Rosemary Sullivan, Andrea Warner, Anna Porter, and Rebecca Wigod, environmental writers Paulene Le Bel, Sarah Cox, and Des Kennedy, essayist John Knox, poets, George Bowering, Randall Maggs, and Susan Gillis, and a whole spectrum of novelists and short story writers including many well-known writers as well as many rising stars.
We’re confident that after your weekend of hearing these great voices you’ll be growing that stack of “must read” books on your bedside table even higher!
As you walk past the fountain and enter the Galiano Inn you’ll immediately come upon the Festival Bookstore. This is your first stop to pick up your tickets or lanyards, festival brochures and so on. It’s also the place to get any information you might need about the Festival and the Island. Please note that if you have a Gold Pass, Full Festival Pass, Saturday Pass or Sunday Pass you’ll be given a coloured lanyard. Please wear this throughout the Festival…it’s your ticket to your purchased events.
The store also sells books by our Festival authors, giving you the chance to start reading that new author you just discovered or one of your old favourites right away. Better yet, you can get them autographed!
Just up the steps you’ll find the lovely Atrevida Bar where you can get a glass of wine and many comfortable chairs to sit in while you drink it and chat with fellow booklovers and authors. Galiano Island Books, which you’ll see on your right just before you go through the gates to the Inn, will be open throughout the weekend as well, giving you lots of time to browse our great selections.
Two doors up from the bookstore you can savour a cappuccino or latté at Sturdies Bay Bakery & Café. Around the corner and down Sturdies Bay Road a few meters you’ll find Babes in the Woods for great pizza or wraps, the Bowline Café for an espresso and snack as well as many other shops, eateries, and galleries.
Enjoy your LitFest weekend!
